Frequently asked questions
How do you work out a cat's age in human years?
The first year equals about 15 human years, the second adds about 9, and each year after that adds about 4. That is why a 5-year-old cat is about 36.
Is one cat year equal to seven human years?
No. The seven-year rule is a myth; cats mature much faster in their first two years and then age more steadily.
When is a cat considered senior?
Cats are commonly considered senior from 11 years old, about 60 in human years, and super senior from 15.
Is this calculator a substitute for a vet check?
No. It gives a general guide. Ask your vet about care for your cat's particular health and life stage.
